Chad Esau was working the graveyard shift at a coffee shop, when a booker from MMM – A Multi Management Agency, approached him asking if he wanted to be a model. He jumped at the opportunity and that’s where the journey started. With encouragement from the MMM team, Chad, who has Vitiligo and experienced bullying as a result, used this negativity as motivationto showcase that beauty has no barriers to inspire others who are a little different. Today Chad is a contestant for Mr. South Africa 2020 and brand ambassador for Braveheart.
Vitiligo affects Chad on a day-to-day basis as it’s something he sees in the mirror every day. Whilst entering adulthood, Chad started embracing his different skin. As a result, he became a happier person and started attracting people with his positive attitude and outlook on life.
With a platform as big as the Mr. South Africa competition, he hopes to create more awareness to stop bullying not just in schools but also in the workplace. He wants to become a positive role model and mentor for society.
“I believe people should empower each other and not put each other down. Society needs to understand that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and colors. If you witness someone being bullied, don’t be a spectator. Intervene in a respectful manner to make the person aware that what they are doing is wrong and hurtful and that they should not do it again.”
Chad lives his life by these words: “You are enough. There is nothing wrong with you. You are Imperfectly Perfect.”
